Baby Announcements 2010

Once upon a time there was a mother of many, who sought a better life for herself and her children. She knew if she tried to raise even one more child, it would only compromise her dreams for the family she already had. But she also possessed the wisdom and grace to know that the baby she was carrying was not a mistake-- but rather, a precious miracle with a bright new destiny just waiting to be found. So she bravely explored her options and in the process of doing so, found a lovely couple who needed a baby just as much as her baby needed them. They were graduates of our Cootchie Cootchie Coo! orientation group of 6/09, and they were more than ready to graduate from their childfree status in life to a glorious future as parents. Today, they are the grateful new Mommy and Daddy of a beautiful, newborn son-- and the forever-friends of his gracious first family. We proudly congratulate all of them for their joint efforts to give this little boy the world, and we wish them every joy in their lives together!

We are thrilled for the newest family (could it be one from the DC region?) and are keeping the baby and his birthfamily in our prayers! Enjoy these early, precious days together :)

Two months ago, they were matched; this couple from our Coochie Cootchie Coo orientation group of 6/09. They did everything they were supposed to; talked frequently with the expectant mom, built a friendship, came to Texas to meet her... and then, just sixteen days ago, after weeks of intensive counseling, we had to let them know that as hard as it was for her to let them go, she felt compelled to parent her child herself, against all odds.

They were surely saddened by the news. They could've rightfully been disappointed with the mom in question, feeling she owed them at least the courtesy of a personal explanation for her change of heart. They could've felt angry or rejected or slighted. They could've felt resentment towards the agency whose program exposed them to such heartache. But they took the high road, good people that they are. They trusted that something better was in store for them, however much the news may have stung them at the time.

They could not have known that just six days before that fateful phone call, in the same town, a baby was born who would need them so much more. They couldn't have known that in that same town, a mother who'd considered adoption earlier in pregnancy but lost her nerve was still pondering her options. They couldn't have guessed that just 15 days later, they would get The Phone Call that would forever change their lives, better their family constellation, and justify the trust they had placed in this small Texas adoption agency.

But today, being people of faith, being folks of integrity, being the loving parents that they are, this couple cleared their busy schedules to jump a flight to San Antonio, to meet the mother who risked everything to make her son theirs, and to embrace the three-week-old angel whose fate will forever be changed by their presence here. Tonight, this couple laughed and cried with a young woman of remarkable valor and an incredibly adorable baby boy, who will soon be championed by a proud big brother who has yet to meet him (but will undoubtedly be his bestest pal and favorite sibling for a lifetime to come.)

Surely, this is what open adoption is about; the joining of hearts for the smallest of souls. May God bless this newly-expanded family, and may the children therein always know they have come to be where they are not by accident but by the most divine of interventions!
