 Hello Everyone,

Chris and I are so excited to get started with abrazo. Reading all the subjects on the forum we sure have alot to learn. Our application is in and we are waiting for the invitation for January 2011. We have our first meeting for our homestudy December 13th 2010. If there is anyone on this forum who has done a homestudy in Illinois it would be great to get some information from you. We picked a agency to do the homestudy and I have been told that the fee may be too high. Would love to talk to anyone about there homestudy to see if we are in the right ball park. Look forward to being on this forum and getting started in this exciting process.

Hi Danette, welcome to the forum. Exciting times getting the application in, our best wishes to you in your journey. While I cannot offer information about illinois, I would suggest to take in consideration the source when talking about homestudy fees. I had someone in texas tell us our homestudy fee was too high but the homestudy fees in oregon are set by the state as $1500 - every agency charges the same exact fee amount in the whole state from what I understand. So while that might be high for other states, in oregon it's what you are going to pay.

Danette, I am not advocating for any of the programs below, but here's a basic summary of the figures I found for IL homestudies, which are significantly higher than Abrazo's $1200 homestudy fee for couples in-state (still, not one of them is anywhere near that $7k mark someone quoted you!?!)

These folks don't post their fees online, but I know several Abrazo families have used them:

http://www.f-r-c.org/home_study_services.php

$2500 (appears to be for homestudy only):

http://www.stmaryservices.com/domestic_fees.cfm

$2580 for homestudy PLUS post-placement supervision:

http://www.adoptionark.org/public/pag13.aspx

$2725 for homestudy PLUS post-placement supervision:

http://www.centerforfamily.com/informationsheet.html

$2750 for homestudy PLUS post-placement supervision:

http://www.adoption-link.org/domestichomestudy.aspx

$2850 (appears to be for homestudy only?)

http://www.sunnyridge.org/adoption/domestic/cost.php

$4k (gulp!) for homestudy PLUS post-placement supervision:

http://www.cradle.org/fees-1

$4,250 (double gulp-- this is a CHURCH-subsidized agency!?!) for homestudy plus postplacement:

Thank you for the welcomes. The Home Study we decided to go with is at the most $3,000 and this includes post placement. When we heard $7,000 we did our research and were recommended to a Luthern Charities. So the numbers I see that have been posted are about right for a Home Study and post placement. Thank you for the responeses. We have our first meeting December 13th. We are looking forward to getting started.

Thank you

Danette

Welcome Danette!

We are in KY and the fees Elizabeth listed above are in line with what we found here. We paid $2100 for the homestudy and post placement visits. If you were quoted $7k I would think that is waaayy too high.

Andrea

Welcome Danette!! Welcome to the forum. You will find a lot fo information and always so many willing to help in any way.

We are also from KY and we used Adoption Assistance based out of Danville, KY, but they have several different social workers in different areas in KY and TN. The cost in 2008 was $1500. They were great to work with. We loved our social worker. I agree $7 k seems waaaaay to high.

We used the same agency this year and their fees are still $1500. We had a few minor issues with paperwork not getting to the right places at the right time, but overall it was a good experience and we would use them again!

Elizabeth,

Thank you for all that information. It has been helpful. I made sure the Homestudy included post placement fees and it does and it is 3,000 at the most so it seems to be right in line with what you found. I appreciate the time you spent on this.

Thank you

Lot's of great educational advice and learning tools for the adoption process. We are happy to begin this process.

Hi Amy,

Thank you. We are excited to get going. We figured we would start our home study so we can be ready for what ever comes next. I figured we would do all the homestudy work because I am sure there is post orientation work when we come back. Thank you for the encouragement.

Danette

Way to get things done Danette! The next orientation is just around the corner, and it sounds like you are already working hard on moving your journey forward. Keep us posted on your progress - or any questions.

Amy
