This person was not worth explaining it to. When we were placed with Alexander she also made a point of telling one of our friends that it was not fair that I did not gain weight and go through labor. Yep, Jerk.

We never used paper pregnant but we did say that we started our adoption journey. Paper pregnant does not bother me but someone I know said it bothered them...Because adoptive parents have no idea what it feels like to be pregnant. When she said that, it felt like a slap in the face. Some people are just jerks.

Hannah, Thanks for posting. I often wondered what to call those moments. I have had several of them through the years and look back at them sometimes and think about those moments. And often they were just times where I was still and took in the moment. I had one the other day. Kevin and Alexander were sitting on the couch reading a story. I was packing up Christmas decorations and I just stopped for a moment and 'really' saw my family. It was a 'Kairo' moment and I will cherish it forever. Leah x

Adoptive Families magazine has a great article this month concernign Open Adoption Over the Years. There was also a great article about siblings, etc. Leah x

We use Skype to chat with our relatives in the UK. I love speaking with our nephews in London. We try to do it at least once or twice a month. Kevin is trying to teach his parents how to do it but there has not been much joy. They would love to be able to see Alexander via the computer. I think when they come this Spring for a visit, Kevin will show his Mom how to log-in, etc. When I lived in Scotland, My Mom and I would do it almost every Sunday. It was so nice to see and speak with her at the same time.

Congrats! What a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays.

I think some friends/co-workers find it a challenge because we talk about Alexander's Birth-Mom and his siblings often. For instance last night, we had dinner with a friend. In his country there is no such thing as a Birth-Parent choosing Adoptive Parents for their child. We try to educate everyone on it and also, about open adoption and the process. So he sat and listened to us and also, asked a few questions. We answered them openly. I could tell that our friend thought it was a little strange that we speak so freely of Alexander's Birth-Family. Our friend made a comment that Alexander was so good because the conversation and the football game on in the back ground did not bother him. Alexander slept right through it all. We told our friend that we honestly feel that the reason Alexander can sleep through chatter, music and the television is because he heard his older brothers while he was in the womb and that his Birth-Mom is so caring and most likely spoke with him. We also discuss openly that we would really like to meet his birth family. I cannot express enough how much Adoption Families magazine has helped us. That would be a suggestion I have for everyone who have friends/family members who are curious about Adoption or want to learn more about it. Buy a subscription for your family members or let them borrow yours. It really does help start a dialogue.

We used Kinko's the first time and they did a great job. We went to Office Depot the 2nd time and used a coupon and they did a great job, too and it was about 40% cheaper. They have great card stock at both places and both places were very helpful. It is worth searching the paper or the internet for copy coupons.

I have searched for some books like this but no joy. Hopefully, someone on the forum can point us in the right direction. We are very close to our nephews. We took our nephews to go see Kung Fu Panda 2 and started a dialogue with them about the adoption theme that was in the movie. They were 4 at the time and they did not ask too many questions. But I think by speaking with them about Adoption before we were blessed with Alexander really helped them understand that their new cousin was a part of our/their family. They adore their new cousin. Every time they come visit they bring him a book. It is so cute.

I saw the article about Mariska in people magazine. Her family is just gorgeous.

We tell Alexander everyday how much we love him, that he can do anything and that he is important. I know he is only 11 days old but everyday since the 22nd of this month we tell him that. That was one of my favorite quotes in the book and my Mother told me something similiar almost everyday. If fact, she still does.

Hello! I am not too sure if I posted on this part of the forum a few days back (please forgive if I did, this past week has been a wee bit crazy). We just wanted to say Thank You for all of the well-wishes. We also want to thank his incredible Birth-Mom, who has entrusted us with the most incredible blessing. We hope one day that we can tell her in-person how Thankful we are. Kevin and I are so in love with Alexander. He is the most gorgeous, wee boy and he makes us smile 24/7. Love, L & K & A xxx
