  1. Adam,

Sometimes adoptees fear what they themselves do not have...Grandpa Bruce was much like that too. Now (as you know) his perspective is much different.) :)

    Karen

Thanks Karen. Nice summation and I agree. I think in time, it'll get easier for her.

  2. What has been really interesting to me is that my mother-in-law (Beth's dad remarried recently) ,who is adopted herself, has been having a really hard time with our level of openness. You can sense the uneasy feelings when we talk about our contact with "C". She supports our adoption and is happy for us, she is just concerned that something "Could" happen even though we have tried to put her mind at rest many, many times. -AdamWhat has been really interesting to me is that my new mother-in-law (Beth's dad remarried recently) ,who is adopted herself, has been having a really hard time with our level of openness. 3. my oldest daughter Amanda has a terrible time with things that are not true, such as the tooth fairy and santa claus. She absolutely needed to know the truth (at a young age).

    Karen

 What? The toothfairy, not real-- okay.. But what's this about SANTA?????!

    ;):P

  4. Adam, thanks for the laugh. So this is the effect of sleep deprivation? Hey, I'll take it any day! But it is definitely entertaining!

And think, he is back at work!! SO glad you aren't a doctor, fireman, or other emergency person!

 That makes TWO of us!

  5. Wishing these children a wonderful forever home.Really not making a joke here, but wow, that's quite a cultural background (Irish, Hispanic, Cantonese, African-American). Lots of cultural educational opportunities for these twins and their family :) What a wonderful opportunity for some PIW'sWishing them, their Birthparents, and their future Forever Family all the best,
Adam-- you must've been reading wayyyy back to pull this one up! :PBut the good news is, after searching the nation, we did find an absolutely FANTASTIC couple for these twins. They went home with a very successful Nigerian-American physician and his wife, who was a stay-at-home mom and just happened to be of-- yes! Cantonese and Irish descent, herself!! (What were the odds?!) We regretted that the girls got stuck in our foster care for the time that they did, because the twins' birthmom so wanted them to go straight from her arms to their new parents, and that didn't happen. But we have no doubt the twins ended up in exactly the right home, in the end, and we were delighted that the adoptive family even made it to Camp Abrazo 2005 to show them off, the summer following that placement.
 You know, i was very confused after posting as I saw it and thought, hey! where did that post go. Okay, I get to blame some sleep deprivation on this right?! If not, we'll just chalk it up to not paying attention. It all makes sense now though :lol:Glad I could add a laugh to anyone who might have been following my post. :lol:Okay, I better exit this thread before I cause any trouble. It wasn't long ago that I think I replied to an old thread and started congratulating that couple on expecting :huh: It was a bit of a shocker for them too! :PThanks Elizabeth :)-Adam
This post was from 2004. :)
What year are we in again ;) :lol:THANKS! and SORRY!! :) :) :)
  6. Abrazo is seeking very special, multicultural and homestudy-ready adoptive parents for a beautiful set of two-month old twin girls of Irish/Hispanic/Cantonese/African-American descent.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens over the age of 25, legally married for more than a year, with documented infertility (unable to conceive) and a willingness to commit to continuing post-placement communication with the birthfamily.

Abrazo is accepting letters of interest with completed homestudies between now and 9/20/04; information can be mailed to our office or faxed to 210/342-6547 during business hours. Gracias!

Wishing these children a wonderful forever home.

  8. Thanks for the welcome, Adam and everyone else who has been so kind in welcoming us back to the forum. I had forgotten just how addicting the forum can be!

Addictive??? This forum??? Really?? I better be careful, I don't want that to happen to me. ;)

Whoops ! Too late! This place had me at "Login"

  9. My Dad was asking about what names we were thinking about naming the baby if it is a boy........

Thanks, Saint. The first question Brian's dad asked was when were we going to get our baby. Brian's sister asked when and what were we going to name our son or daughter.

Last night when my grandma called, she asked me if I had heard any news about when we would be getting a baby. I had to remind her were still working on the homestudy and all of that must be complete before birthparents could meet us :(:)

    Cathy

I know family get SO anxious. We must have told them a thousand times how the process works and every time we'd speak, they'd ask "So? Any news?" The day we took placement they began asking "So, when will you be home?" And I thought it was hard for US to be patient.....

  10. Hi Everyone! :D

I just wanted to introduce myself, or shall I say reintroduce myself to the Abrazo Forum. My name is Robin and my husband's name is Jerry. We were part of the "Tremendous Ten" orientation group of May 2004 and thanks to God, Abrazo, and a very special birthmother, adopted a beautiful daughter in July 2004. Meghan just turned 3 years old the end of July and what an amazing 3 years it has been! She is just so fun, smart, and lights up the room wherever she goes. We LOVE being parents!

It has been quite a while since I have done any posting (my how time flies), although I have been "lurking" a lot the past few months. I decided that it is now high time I join in because I am so pationate about adoption.

We sent in our application to Abrazo in early August in hopes of being one of their "againers". We are SO very excited about adopting for the second time! Meghan is very anxious to be a big sister. She asks us all the time about her baby sister or baby brother. We are looking forward to the plans and journey God has for us to lead us to the newest member of our family!

    Robin, Meghan's Mommy

Robin Welcome or Welcome Back! It's nice to have you participating in the forum and I wish you and your family well in your journey to expand your family.

    Peace,

    Adam

  12. I'm sure if Nathan is anything like his father he'll be posting on the forum before long!!!!!!
What makes you think that Wasn't actually little Nate posting the picture of himself on the H3! thread?;) -A

Well not only do Adam and Beth have to lug home car seats and diaper bags and all that stuff, but they get to carry home a big purple thing too! You'll truly appreciate the big purple thing when youre sitting there relaxing in the sun watching your son play ball! He'll be star player before you knw it! You guys were great today and maintained ultracoolness through it all. I'm glad Nathan has so many wonderful people to care for him and love him as he grows. I'm sure if Nathan is anything like his father he'll be posting on the forum before long!!!!!!Congratulations to everyone!

Thanks again for all your help today. You too were wonderful :)And YEAH! I finally found out what the PURPLE THING is :):D Of course I could never tell (unless you can spell my name correctly on a check that is ;) )

  13. I love the name ...chosen for the meaning "God gave" or "gift of God."

Exactly! :) We too were looking at biblical names and their meanings and then which ones just felt right. "C" liked it as well and so we all decided on Nathan :)

Thanks to all for your continued support and for sharing in our celebration.

  14. "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can,

In all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can,

To all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

    --John Wesley

    (1703 - 1791)

Abrazo was blessed to have been commissioned to help, today, as the Maker of John Wesley made new parents of one very deserving couple, who surely live by the creed above, and will raise their precious newborn son to do the same.

Before coming to Abrazo, these graduates of our Happy Holiday Hopefuls weekend of 12/06 had already survived a failed private placement that might have shaken the faith of weaker mortals. But supported by the love of family and friends, they found the courage to reapproach the adoption process by way of Texas (where this daddy-to-be soon distinguished himself as the most prolific male poster in the history of Abrazo's Forum.) They weathered an unsuccessful match that invariably readied them for the right one, even if they couldn't see it at the time! and the rest of their tale is one great answered prayer, bound to forever enrich the lives of caring teen birthparents, a proud new Mom and Dad, and one very beloved baby boy. May God's love shine upon each of them as he grows, and may this dear child's life be a blessing to them all.

Beautiful sentiments from the Stork. Thank you so much.

We are very honored, blessed, and humbled to be the proud new parents of one beautiful baby boy...

    :) NATHAN JOEL :)

We have been blessed in so many ways one of which was our match with "C". She is such a strong, courageous young woman who has given us a gift that we can never thank her enough for nor could she ever know just how much she has touched and enriched our lives. God Bless her. He has certainly blessed us.

    Peace,

    -Adam

  15. Adam, your Siena is gorgeous! (now, how do you post pics in your reply???)

    Thanks. :)

For pictures, you will need to have a digital picture and upload it to a photo sharing site like Photobucket (www.photobucket.com). There are many other sites too that will allow you to share photos but more importantly that will give you the URL (the internet link) to the picture.

Btw, Photobucket is a free site.

So, once uploaded, you would copy the URL Link assigned to your specfic photo and then go to your post.

There is a little colored "insert image" button with a picture of a mountail landscape that looks like this:

    insert-image-button.jpg

Push that button and paste the URL into the box that opens up. Click "Ok" and the link will be posted in your Post.

Once you submit your final post, the picture should appear along with whatever text you added during your post.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to PM (private message me).

  16. That was how ours was too (electronic), they misted our fingers with water. Also, just an FYI, we didn't pay for expedited service and still got ours back in under two weeks. We put a deadline date for 2 weeks and got them back later the next week. On the envelop write "ADOPTION" as they process these first for people. They are really quick.

    Jenny

Yeah, I figured the $3 charge might be a gimmick, but $6 was a drop in the bucket to everything so I figured why not get it done quickly - just in case! :D

    -A

  17. It's really easy too! We went to our state police (like 20 minutes) and they have the blue fingerprint cards you'll need and they did ours electronically with water instead of ink. I don't know if they all have been updated to that as it is newer. When we did ours in 2005 it was still ink and messy. Then you just send them in with a letter and await approval (unless your a 2007 Bonnie and Clyde ;) ) I am sure one of them links from Calix has the FBI.gov website, but you can go there and print the address and form letter to mail in with the fingerprint cards!

    Good luck!

    Jenny

Ours last year and this was electronic. You just roll your finger across a little fingerpad and it comes up right in front of you digitally, no ink, no mess...very easy, very fast. I paid the $3 expedite fee and my results were back to our agency within 10 days. I think the fee for the background check (fingerprinting is just a part of it) was like $55 each.

  18. Cathy, I'm with you! We have three golden retrievers and one cat. So we're definitely in the 'got both' camp!

Gotta love the Golden's. Our Golden, Siena, has been a faithful pet and will be a great friend to our child I'm sure. We included a picture of her in the profile (maybe this one below) to let any birthparent know that we are a pet friendly family.

    Siena.jpg

There is a Dog/Cat thread on the forum HERE if you care to share info on your pets.

But then I could definitely see the point of not putting in wedding pics if they look outdated.

Our wedding pics were nearly 10 years old so we left ours out. Space was at a premium on the 6 pages of our profile and that one didn't make the cut. Plenty of other pictures of just the 2 of us and pics with family to show our family relationships.

It's an individual choice. Good luck :)

  19. The home study agency we've chosen told me to ask Abrazo if an FBI Identification Record Request is needed. She says she needs one for her other Texas adoptive couples (but she hasn't worked specifically with Abrazo before.)

We are in Kentucky. We're getting the KY criminal checks and we're getting criminal checks for the previous 10 years when we lived in California.

Do I need to order the FBI check?

    Thanks!

As always, get your Official answers from Abrazo, but enough of us have been through the process that I believe we can answer this....as Kay has already provided some great links.

Yes, I am almost certain, you will need an FBI background check (Fingerprinting and background check) so that it encompasses a national database.

If you have selected someone to complete your homestudy (agency/social worker), they should be able to refer you to the right place to have it done.

I believe the background check must be performed yearly until placement. We just had ours done again earlier this year. I believe ours was once done by Identix but the contract was bought out by another state contractor. I found our information on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation website. You might try the same for the KBI (Kentucky Bureau of Investigation).

    -Adam

  20. Hi everyone - I have a question about the application. On the reference page, it asks for the name of a rabbi or clergy. We don't have one in our new area yet. Should we leave that area blank? Will that really hurt our chances to adopt? (There is a church we want to start attending, but it would be insincere to start going right now because we need to fill in a line on the application!)

If you have an old one (pastor/minister/priest/rabbi....) that would be able to give a form of personal reference, you could use that as well. Sometimes a simple move across a big city might have you relocate churches.

    Just a thought.

  21. SINGLE MOM'S LAMENT (AT FORTY-SOMETHING)

    My kids are acting crazy,

My house is quite a mess.

And where I left my car keys

    Is just anybody's guess.

    The laundry's reached the chimney,

While my checkbook's in the pits.

Guess the good news is-- once aging,

    You swap cellulite for zits?!

Will these kids grow up by thirty?

    Will I find another man?

Will Congress ever find an exit

Or just move troops to Iran?

We've had more rain than Noah!

I miss sun-- I must confess,

I'd be buried by daily doldrums,

    But for my colleagues' zaniness.

Though their lives seem fun and vibrant

While mine has that weathered feel,

I can't help but count my blessings

(And then I feel like quite the heel!)

So dear Lord, this is a thank you

for each joy-- and yes, each woe!

For my two so-wild children, and (!!)

an office to which to go!

For my clients, past and present,

For hard lessons life has taught,

For Your patience when I'm whiney...

Thanks! (You've put up with quite a lot.)

So: who cares about those car keys?

    Let the creditors just wait.

    Hey there, God-- muchas abrazos!

(All in all, isn't life great?!)

    ;)

Very nice poem Elizabeth. God has blessed you much talent with your creativity and writing.

Wishing you a Sun-Shiny Day with calm kids, stress-free calls, lots of laughs, and may your car keys magically appear in your purse when you are ready to go :)
