Amanda,
I'm so excited that you are starting to look at baby stuff. I was buying baby stuff for years and years before we were finally parents. Everything I bought worked out perfectly. I felt a little silly because I did not have a baby but I got over it.
I would not worry too much about being accepted just stay connected on the forum. sometimes it takes time to hear back.
Best of luck.

Hi Everyone! I am Amanda and my husband is Chris. We just submitted our inquiry and are waiting to hear if we will be accepted into the Abrazo family. We are also in the middle of our homestudy. This is so exciting! I see that many of you have already adopted from Abrazo and it makes me feel so good that everyone seems to be so helpful and comforting. As you all know, it is very scary getting started into this process knowing nothing and I think it's great that these forums are here to help make everyone comfortable with the process. I hope with all my heart that we are accepted. We've had a heartbreaking time with infertility and miscarriage and have come to realize that God just wanted us to have our child a different way
Anyway...this is my first post ever, and in all of my research in this process, I'm sure I'll be posting often. Just wanted to introduce myself and it never hurts to get more fingers crossed for us, too!
Amanda Welcome to the forum! We started looking into Abrazo in April and sent in our inquiry in May. This is our third adoption and first through Abrazo. I remember when we realized that adoption was the path for us. It was such a relief that I knew what I needed to do. There was a long road ahead but so worth the wait. I was just glad to be on the path that would lead us to our child. We will keep our fingers crossed for you!

I was at Borders last night looking at adoption books and saw "The Girl who went away" but was not sure if it was anti adoption or not.
Heather
Heather, I have not yet read the book, it is something I'm a bit afraid of to read - I was not forced or coerced to place my child for adoption (they were before my time) but I still think it would hit a little close to home in that they had closed adoptions...anyway, I just wanted to say that the book was very well received by this triad group I am a part of that consists of mostly adoptees and birthmothers - so I wouldn't describe the book as anti-adoption at all, I don't believe that was the intent - rather to raise awareness of a group of women who otherwise are forgotten.

Thanks Lisa for the info it might be an interesting read then.

Congrats to the new parents! Your four legged kid or kids might get a little jealous now that you will have to divide your attention.

Lauren and Chuck,
Welcome to the forum! How exciting to be on your way to parenthood! I' am also a Michigander and lived in Italy. I miss the great food. Sorry both my parents graduated from Michigan State but I think U of M is better!

Heather,
I think having an open adoption is wonderful. I thought that maybe talking with my AP's and hearing the baby in the background would be a reminder of what I don't have....but it is a reminder of what I DO have! I love hearing about all the new little things he does.
Your girls look adorable and so happy in the picture of you and them! The smiles on their faces are proof that you are doing an excellent job! And don't feel guilty. I am sure your BP's are escstatic that their children are in such loving arms! They wouldn't have picked you otherwise!!!
Thank you! I hope you continue to post your journey on this forum. I'm glad life is going so well for you.

What a wonderful person you are! I can only imagine what you have felt. My heart goes out to you. We have two adopted daughters and I feel so blessed that we were chosen by their birthmothers and I hope that they feel as content as you do. I know at times I felt guilty for being the adoptive mother because I felt that their birthmothers would do just as good of a job. I always hope that when we meet again that they know that I have done my best to raise them. We only got to write letters and meet with our birthmohters once. Has it helped to have an open adoption? I would love to be more open with our birthmothers now!

Gigi and Edwin,
I am excited that you have found your way to Abrazo! You have found a unique agency. Everyone is so kind and it feels like a family of support. We are in the application process. So we are about at the same stage of the process. It will be fun to follow your story.
I met a couple on our vacation that told us their difficult journey with adoption. They have not had much luck so I gave them Abrazos internet address and hope they can follow their dreams.
Good luck and we cannot wait until you get your approval from Abrazo!

Well, it has been one week since we mailed the initial inquiry and I noticed on my online banking statement that the Abrazo processing fee cleared my account! WOO HOO!!! I am taking this as a big positive sign that an application is on the way! (I know, it doesn't take much to excite me!) We have our first meeting with a therpist for the homestudy on Monday and two more scheduled for next week as well! One together, then two separate ones later that week. We have also finished two of the recommended open adoption books! This is such an exciting time in our lives and it is so wonderful to have a forum like this to learn from!
We're on our way!
Have a great weekend!
Donna
Donna,

Donna and Bart,
Congratulations on your new voyage! I have been a part of this forum for about a month and I have loved getting to know the other Abrazo Moms. You will get your application soon. We are working on our application now. I was also very anxious to get mine.
Keep us posted!
