  1. Though her arrival came earlier than expected, she's impressing everyone with her vigor and determination already, and it's no wonder, considering her remarkable origins... because she was born to a young teen with an ageless heart, who has survived life-and-death odds to bring this baby into the world (and into the lives of the adoptive couple so carefully chosen by her birthmom and birthgrandmother.)

Elizabeth - your words are beautiful and so true.

I imagine most adoptive families think their baby's first mother is amazing - but it is hard to say how very special ours is. The fact that she is even here with is remarkable - and that she is still strong enough to place her precious angel in our care, even more so. I don't know how she manages to endure so much and still be so incredibly beautiful and full of light.

But she has had the miracle of a mother's love. Our baby not only has an amazing birthmother, but a birthgrandmother who would go to the end of the earth to demonstrate her love for her girls.

I can't wait to tell Sloan all about her journey into this world - it s a one of a kind story and one I know she will be so proud of.

Amen Shelly- Truely a match made in heaven

  2. Thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts... today was the first of the funerals, in Dad's "chosen" hometown of Temple, TX. Although the weather had turned brutally cold for those parts, Paul and I were deeply touched that so many people braved the elements to be there with us-- especially four special angels from San Antonio named Angela, Holly Renee, Pamela and Audra!

Tomorrow we fly to Iowa, for Thursday's final memorial service and burial in our hometown of Grundy Center. We do feel lifted on wings of prayer, even in the midst of our great grief, and we give thanks to God for the remarkable man our dad was, and for the blessing of being surrounded by our family in Christ even in the face of our loss.

Wishing you a truly Merry Christmas, as we are all so poignantly reminded of the real "reason for the season."

May Angel wings and whispers guide you always

  3. My personal hot button is adoption language, I have made lots of waves around here in the past over using the term birthmother to refer to an expectant woman..I apperciate the continuing conversation.

Kristal - I love your perspective on the issue -thanks so much for sharing

  4. Big hugs to my friend Jenny

I am SO uneducated about the International adoption process, but this is certainly a good topic for discussion. I wish that mothers in every corner of the world had the ability and resources to care for the children they bring into the world. That includes a safe and ethical adoption process if that would be her choice.

    I admire your passion Jenny
