  1. The New York Times has created a site/blog for infertility stories and for discussion about the myriad of decisions in having a family and the myriad of paths that are out there to parenthood. While this site is oriented around the infertility experience, I thought it might resonate with folks on the Forum, especially folks who are in the transition phase from fertility treatments to adoption.

You can listen to the stories, but you can also post on the blog. Upon initial glance I see that a number of folks have waved the adoption flag! (yay!!)

  2. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! I have chills just reading this! And I want to say, Patti, that you have remained so positive and faithful in your wait for this precious daughter. It's been a joy following your path. Can't wait to hear the details!!!!!!!!!!icon12.gif

Amen to that! Congrats Patti, Steve and Jack -- Sounds like she was worth the wait!!

  3. YAY!!! The announcement we have been waiting for for our fellow StickyBack!!! So glad to hear that it is official Natalie and Keith (and of course big brother Cooper)!! We are thrilled for you, and cannot wait to see photos!!

    Love, Susan, Bill and Tasia

  4. Thanks everyone! We are completely stoked. Application has arrived & we are going to orientation TOMORROW! I still can't believe it. I have to bring Cooper to my mom's for the weekend...which will mean meeting her halfway three hours from here in OKC, but she is so excited to have him & he loves them.

This is actually the longest I have left him....but the good news is we'll be busy so won't have that much time to think about it. lol

Thank you everyone for your support throughout the process thus far!

    Natalie

Safe travels Natalie -- see you tomorrow!! :)

  5. Yes! We are really excited. We are technically "againers"--our first process was just not through Abrazo. I had a feeling there were some againers who were posting on their own threads about Orientation! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Yay!! It will be nice to meet you in a few short weeks!

  6. There were lots of newbies on this thread within the past month...just wondering if anyone is going to be at May Orientation? ;)

Are you? We are going, but we are againers! I too am intrigued to get to know the newbies who are coming! :)

  7. You are truly amazing and I love this site!! Thank you Abrazo Chicks!

I am sending this to a close friend here whose 19-year sister has just found out she is pregnant and is very unsure of what to do. She is totally at a loss about her choices and what she will choose and who she can turn to for guidance. The birthfather is sorta in the picture but not predictably and she does not know if she should try to parent, place with another family member or place for adoption. Along with this great new site of yours, are there other on-line spaces where expectant birthmothers can connect with others to talk about her options and find a community? I would love to help her in anyway I can.

    Thanks -- Susan

  8. It seems we are not so lucky, Elizabeth! It looks like Virginia requires a full new homestudy. This is the word from the agency down here that is working with us this time around. I am getting a second-opinion from the agency that did our homestudy in 2005 in hopes that it is not true! Oh well, guess I cannot go shopping yet... ;)

  9. So I have a question about the 5 visits, held over 3 distinct times --

Does this mean that one visit could be 1) joint 2) Bill only and 3) Susan only and this counts as 3, and then there are two more separate visits?? How many visits are required by Texas to be in the home? In VA, only visit has to be in the home, but I have some memory that Texas requires more than one home visit...

Finally, thanks so much Melissa and Adam for the traffic about full homestudies and updates. We are just starting our homestudy process again for #2 and I need to check again with our social worker. So much has changed in 3 years for us -- new home, new community, new jobs, Tasia is here, new agency doing our homestudy, etc... that we may need a whole new one. It would be nice if we only need an update!

  10. Yes, AshG, I believe that Laurie is right -- Abrazo does not fully accept applicants into the program until after you complete an orientation weekend. So the next step after submitting an application is waiting to hear about being invited to an orientation.

    Good Luck! Susan

  11. Nothing's been said on this thread in a while, but maybe someone can answer this question here....

About how long should we expect to wait to hear from Abrazo after sending in our application? The initial inquiry says 2-4 weeks, but there isn't a wait time listed on the application. (Unless I missed it!) Just wondering. I do better when I know just how long I'll be on pins & needles ;)

Welcome AshG -- It is great to meet you over the Forum and welcome to the Abrazo community!

To help answer your question, I would say it all depends. My sense is that there is no set time and it all depends on the needs Abrazo has or foresees at the time your application arrives on their desk. You may hear quickly if you fit what they are looking for right now, or it may take longer if they are waiting to see how other matches or placements unfold. Life at Abrazo is in a constant state of motion so one never knows what can happen on any given day. All I can say is that it will happen when the time is right, and when it is meant to be...

Good Luck! Everyone on the Forum is here for you on your journey ahead!

    Susan

  12. Welcome Jenny!! Please know that we are here for you through it all -- this Forum is an amazing place and you can lean on everyone here through your adoption journey -- get ready, it is quite the ride!!
