  1. Thanks! Glad to get in front of an audience willing to listen to our story.

I know orientation jusssst ended, but has a date been confirmed or considered (that I can tell the audience about) for when the next orientation weekend might be held? If not, no biggie. I can just tell them they should start on paperwork right away, so they could be sitting in San Antonio soon after the first of the year.

Yes, please feel free to share with them our next orientation date! It will be taking place on December 6th and 7th :)

  2. Christ United Methodist Church, located at 4488 Poplar Avenue, is hosting the “Hearts For Adoption” series each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. through November 20th. It is a FREE series and the public is invited to come to any and all nights of interest. Although I am not a member of this particular church, I've spoken there before. Nice folks & won't try to guilt you into coming back...very welcoming environment.

Leslie & I will be sharing our story on Wednesday the 16th...the journey, the process, and probably a few words about an agency we're kind of partial to. ;)

Among the featured speakers throughout the series are an adoption attorney and a licensed clinical social worker. Discussions will also cover domestic & international adoptions.

Here's the link to more info: http://www.cumcmemphis.org/adoption

We've also got details and a flyer on our website as well.

Events like these help answer some general questions to help you make some informed decisions, but it is by no means a substitute for what you'll learn at Orientation Weekend.

    -Tim

    Tim,

This is wonderful that you will be sharing your story. I believe at events like these it is always important for someone who truly knows the importance of open adoption to speak. I hope it goes well, and that you can help at least one family understand the importance of what we do at Abrazo.

  3. Thank you all… We had a nice late lunch early dinner Sunday and really just hung out being lazy most of the day which was great (that comfortable old shoe syndrome thing).. B)

    Karen, Suzi,

Lol, I wish I could figure out Why it is that men are told they look Distinguished and women look old.. though I know the "Women are like wine, the older they get the better they are"... But we have to find a knock out Word that conveys all of this.. :D Although silver streaks don't bother me since I've had them since I was born, it's just those darn wiry ones that stand up like antennas on top of the head that irk me.

    How about lovely longevitist??

  4. So today is my 29th wedding anniversary.. which makes me feel kinda old  ..silver lining though (and ya already some silver streaking hair besides my two large beauty marks of sliver on my head :o), I guess thats better than if I were still married to my xthen it be 35, would be feeling older..

But it's a beautiful day, Fall is here, my girls and all my family doing well... I am blessed!!

    Happy Anniversary!

  5. I hope that you feel 100% better after your first injection! I love that you are not "old enough" to be a grandma, lol. That is really cute that she said that!

Well after months and months of being tested, prodded, x-rayed and MRI'd in an effort of trying to get ALL my health back in check.. I am FINALLY getting something moving which I hope helps my bad arm, then I can move on to my head stuff (ENT), then I hope eventually to that Darn pain on my side.

Monday had the first of a series of three injections I am to get on my neck, apparently my arm pain which I never thought had any relation to neck/shoulder stuff until neuro suggested it and sent me to a pain specialist who in-turn came to the same conclusion after requesting more x-rays. He feels by week's end I should be at least feeling 40% better, I'm shooting for 90% (the power of positive thinking :D ).. Go back in two weeks for injection #2.. the only downside to this is that he does them in the afternoons and I have to fast all day prior because they completely knock me out.. It really shouldn't be a problem because some days I can go pretty much the entire day without eating.. It's just that when they tell me I CAN'T EAT it's when i want to eat. But can't have it both ways, so have to just keep busy not to think of food...

Other than that doing fairly well.. Keeping busy with my daughter and her school... Spoke with my angel girl Sunday evening which was awesome, she's a card.. Made my evening when I heard she said I wasn't a grandmother because I'm "not old" I will have to wait until I see her in person to explain to her that I am in deed a grandma (be it YOUNG) because she is in my life.. I really want to see her reaction to that..

    Wishing all an awesome week!!

  6. Well I have a LOT of threads and post to catch up on, but have to only do a little at a time.. Its more cumbersome to try and work with this system right now, and I am not one know for patience.

BUT I guess our webmasters are still trying to work out the kinks, or maybe its just me cause I still cannot post regularly, have to use MORE options, can NOT edit, AND my current avatar has changed again to an older one.. UGH!!!!

I understand your frustration, I am having trouble with my account as well....we (Abrazo) are working diligently to get the forum updated/fixed and also our website updated as well.

Pretty soon all of these troubles will be distant memories :)

  7. Thank you ladies...

It is always exciting to plan our visits, planning this last trip was a little more so..I have to give credit to my angel girl's mommy for the awesome blessing of having a sleep over guest. When we were planning and she suggested the possibility I felt my heart expand a thousand x's over. We kept it as a surprise for my daughter and worked on getting rooms on same floor and as close to each other as possible. It was funny, we arrived first and checked in, when they got there, they came to our room and my grandbaby was ready to move her luggage right in... After the six of us spent time at the pool, had dinner, stopped for dessert and headed back to hotel, her mommy brought her to our room with her overnight bag and wearing her beautiful little Rapunzel dress, she was a little hesitant at first, but we all assured her that mommy and daddy were just down the hall and we would take her if she decided to go back to their room. But in no time as the pictures show she felt right at home with us, she was asking my daughter if they were going to sleep in "our bed" (her and my daughter's) in "our room".. She wanted to make sure her Lala was going to sleep with her all night. The following morning was a blast as well, pillow fights, playing pretent beach time, and so much more.

I do hope that by us/me sharing pictures that tell part of our story within open adoption, our journey will encourge, bring hope, open up endless possibilities to any adoptive parent or first family that may be worried, concerned or apprhensive about truly working towards a true bond and environment of love for the most important person who is the child that is loved by them all. By us ALL

It most definitely brings hope and opens up the endless possibilities! I shared a part of this very story with a birthmom I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend! Thank you Mari & Lauranda!

  8. Thank you ladies and princess Naomi, yal are so sweet..

My main role as a mom to a first mom is to support, protect, be there for her and love her unconditionally  . As a first-grandma, it’s to love, help protect, SPOIL, and be there for my angel girl  . As an extended member of adoption it’s to embrace, support and love my angel girl’s family  . As a member of the forum and Abrazo, it is to be here as best I can for all on this journey, offer what I can and LEARN as much from everyone else as I can. .... I have learned so much from all (still want more>>>as my daughter's favorite AT & T commercial with the little girl whose voice reminds her of her daughter  says ), I hope in some small way I have provided some encouragement, help, support, and a hand in friendship to people I have had the blessing and opportunity to touch/be touched by through Abrazo.

Wishing all of you a wonderful day..

    Viva Fiesta in SA!!!!!

    Mari,

It was wonderful to meet you and Lauranda! I was so touched by your story, and it brought up painful and HAPPY memories from 17 years ago.

In fact, a few days after orientation I had a chance to sit down with my mom, and tell her how I met someone that reminded me of her.

Lauranda is very blessed to have such a strong mother in her life!
