  1. A big THANKS to all for your outpouring of thoughts, prayers, love, and kind words. Jermaine and I are so thankful for Momma Elizabeth (E1) entrusting us with her son and also thrilled about the opportunity to parent Baby Jakob. Night 1 was probably as most would expect...I couldn't help but stare at him all night and didn't get much sleep. It's Night 2 and Jakob is awake at 2am as if it's 2pm. When we return home on Sunday, we'll need to help him adjust his internal clock.

After 15 years of marriage, God has shown us this is our season for raising his beautiful creation:

Name: Jakob JaJuan (JJ) Ceasar Wilson

    Born: February 28, 2011

    Time: 4:13pm

    Weight: 8 lbs 10.5oz

    Length: 19.5 "

It just doesn't seem real...from 12 November to 2 March we became parents. And as the new arrival picture shows, Daddy J is a PROUD father indeed and I'm still pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. :) OMG!!!! God is Good!!!! So all of you PIWs, get ready because your season is coming!

Many Blessings to Team Abrazo and a special "shout out" to TIKLV!

Awwww, look at the new footer! I love it! Congrats College BFF! I remember when you approached me Cinco de Mayo & shared your dream of adopting & asked me & Ryan to join you & Jermaine. It's surreal to know that in less than a year OUR dream has come true. Ryan and I are overjoyed to be sharing in this journey with you. Abrazo will forever be a part of our lives. God is in the blessing business indeed! I'm just thrilled that you'll now have time to join me on the forum! HA!

  2. "Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them." --Psalms 126:5 (NIV)

Half a year ago, they didn't know each other-- these people whose lives are now forever entwined for the most precious of reasons.

She was a harried single mom, working to support her family and going to school to better herself.

They were a "still-childless" professional couple; everybody's favorite godparents with a lovely home and an ordered life yet no son or daughter of their own.

Both had shed countless tears, and each was praying for answers.

They found Abrazo in November, attending the TIKLV orientation weekend of 11/10.

She found Abrazo in January, seeking new options for the New Year.

Both were scared, and neither was sure that open adoption held the right answers for their future.

But God knew, surely, and we have no doubt that it was God who led them-- to us, and to each other. God had great plans for both of them, plans that enabled them to effect great change in the lives of the other, and especially for one much-loved baby boy, who came into the world welcomed by all of them, together.

May this be only the beginning of God's glorious plans for them... for both families, and the little boy who will forever love them all. Blessings abound!

Congratulations Wilson family!!! Auntie Ev & Uncle Ry & the entire Tikkie Nation are sooooo happy for you. What a beautiful tribute Elizabeth wrote to you three. Will keep the new family in prayer & your new birthfamily in prayer as well. We love you!!!

  3. Man, I feel like we should call Oprah or The Talk to have this discussion live! Great info. Calix, believe me Ryan only THINKS he's enlightened. I think he had other reasons to have me lactate...

These are all good points. I especially appreciate how you pointed out if there is a failed placement, one could donate their milk to a bank. Didn't even cross my mind.

To Andrea's point about being on call & working, the fact that MIL could still feed Madeline what she was used to is such a good point.

    Thanks for sharing all!

  4. Welcome to the Abrazo family. If only you could see the look on my face with my husband said to me during our baby class, "Can't you just take some hormones & feed the baby?"

Turns out in our married couples ministry, there is a lactation nurse & just two weeks ago I asked her opinion. She stated that i could be done with proper planning. Now, I don't have a baby yet. I was actually matched 2 weeks after orientation & had about 9 wks prior to birth. The BP went into labor early & then changed her mind after birth. I say that to say I'm not sure of the "guaranteed" type of placement but given the nurse told me I'd need to prep with certain medications about 3 months out, how can I ever know when to start? We could get a mom who changes her mind again, or we could get a call less than 3 months out like last time or we could get a BOG (baby on ground). There's not any way to tell when your baby will come. I think that's something you'll have to decide on with your hubby & figure out how the time would work out. One thing I didn't ask was how long I could take the meds before my milk would express. She did mention that I could pump & freeze but that defeats the whole breastfeeding bonding thing.

Good luck with your quest. I will follow this strand to see what new stuff comes up!

  5. Thanks to Oliver's mommy, Steven's wife, and Abrazo's resident hotel fairygodmother, Melissa Giarrosso, the Embassy Suites in San Antonio are now offering reduced rates for Abrazo's guests this year!

This is a huge boon for our clientele, as the Airport location (literally within a mile of our office) will be offering a $99 per-night rate, and the IH10 location (nearer to the Medical Center) will offer an $89 per-night rate... which, of course, includes the legendary cooked-to-order breakfast, manager's reception and free Internet!

To get the reduced rate, guests will need to call each property directly and give Abrazo's corporate number, which we'll post here as soon as we get it from the hotel sales office.

Many thanks to Melissa, for pulling strings for us, because rates this-discounted are virtually unheard of, at Embassy Suites' nationwide!! We are absolutely delighted, and encourage our clients to make ample use of these arrangements, anytime travel needs bring you to San Antonio (Abrazofolk need not be attending orientation to qualify).

    :D:D:D

Whoo Hoo!!! My favorite hotel chain!! Thanks Oliver's Mom!! This will come in handy since Ry & I are expecting a special delivery on 1/29. Thanks to AAA for sharing the love no matter what time of year.

  6. Thanks to all who are sharing their stories with us regarding current sibilings! We were so relieved by her response. Big sis lives with her mommy primarily but we are anticipating more visits "when" we have placement. Happy Holidays to all!

  7. Ryan & I had to break the news to his 16 yo daughter about our adoption plan. We didn't expect anything negative but with teenage girls & their emotions you never know... Anyway, Ryan was so nervous. We took her out to dinner to tell her. He told her how we had discussed adoption from the very beginning of engagement & we have decided that now is the time. She quickly looks up from her smartphone from which she was texting and says, "Oh, like on MTV's '16 & Pregnant'? They did an open adoption where all the families knew each other & hung out & it was cool."

So there you have it, just tune into MTV & they will do the legwork for you. Oh, and yes, she was excited & even joked about when she becomes a big sister, she will tell the baby, you know I'M really your mom! Having 2 BFFs who are adoptees of open adoptions, I have seen the positive effects & know this is the best choice for our family.

  8. Our 2011 orientation dates are tentatively set! (This year, with no regard for the UT football schedule.) We are currently contemplating a change of hotels, due to feedback from our 2010 attendees who reported that the Hilton was getting outdated, so stay tuned for fresh new hotel info! but for those who like to plan ahead, here's what we've got cooking for the coming year*:

    January 21-22

    March 18-19

    June 24-25

    August 19-20

    November 11-12

Note: all approved applicants must receive an official orientation confirmation letter prior to booking travel arrangements. Those who have already requested the 1/11 orientation weekend should be receiving said letters shortly.

*Dates are subject to change. Orientation is an invitation-only event for those with approved inquiries and applications already on file with Abrazo and full participation is required for all applicants seeking admission into Abrazo's Milagros (full-service) program. Attendees receiving acceptance packets at the close of orientation have ten (10) days, post-event, to execute contracts and remit fees and funds needed to enter Abrazo's program, or forfeit acceptance. Orientation is an intensive, adult-only event; those with children should plan their childcare accordingly.

Great to see dates! We will recommend your agency to others we know. May I suggest Embassy Stes Airport location as a new site. 2 room suites, great full breakfast and Happy hour!
