  1. The thing that made me the sickest about this whole ordeal was that she was glad not to be going to prison or getting the death penalty; I guess I would be too, but your daughter is still dead. Wether she is guilty or innocent she still does not have her daughter, which would personally make me just sick. I keep telling myself that the truth is between her and God and He will be the one to judge her in the long run. Sad, sad story.

  2. My parents took our dog when we went to Texas to get Norah and he stayed with them because we were gone for almost 2 months. However, now they won't give us the dog back!! They are too attached to it. However, when Norah comes over she does tend to terrorize him, but he just takes it in stride.

I agree that this it is a parents responsibility and that you need to know your pet. I also agree with Elizabeth in that if there are 15 cats and another 15 dogs, it might be a bit much!!

  3. Interesting! So they could apply as single parents after the divorce I'm assuming? What about a single parent that gets married before the finalization process? Can they both "apply" to adopt the child or only the parent that started the process? The adoption world with its rules and laws is interesting to me. I would never want to be an adoption lawyer, but still interesting!!

  4. Elizabeth - Has is ever happened that someone wasn't finalized yet and the adoptive parents seperated or divorced? I'm not asking for me personally!! But I was just curious if you guys have had to deal with that situation?

  5. When we went to Orientation a year ago. The cost for us was about about $1000. That includes airfare, hotel, and orientation cost. Airfare was a big chunk of that cost. We are from Minnesota so this should be a good estimate for you to go off of. That weekend was definitely worth the money.

    Hope this helps,

  6. Hey,

We just found out this morning that we are invited to attend the July orientation. YAY, HOORAY! We also sent our homestudy appication in today so we can get a head start on our homestudy.

Hope all is well with everybody,

  7. Hi, I am new to the forum. I have been lurking for several months. I have a questions regarding turnaround time for the inquiry. We sent our inquiry via fed ex on April 28th and have not received a response. I know the package was received because I received confirmation from fed ex and our check cleared. Just wondering what the normal time is.

    Thanks!

I believe for Erin and I it took about two weeks to here back. Now we are waiting to here back on our application.

  8. It's been a while since I last posted but it has been a crazy month for me. I started taking my summer session classes a few weeks ago. I am also on a fire department and we were called to a fatality motorcycle accident and it turned out to be someone that I know. So I was kind of in the dumps for a while. But, I am feeling better so we are back into adoption stuff. We are hoping to get invited to the July orientation. Is it a good idea to get started on our homestudy now? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again,

    Mark

  9. This has probably been asked before, but how long does it usually take to hear whether or not a persons application has been accepted. We sent ours off about two and a half weeks ago and haven't heard much. Angela called us to make sure that July was the orientation we wanted to go to but haven't heard anything since. I guess I'm just getting antzy.

  10. Hey again,

We got our application sent off on Saturday. What a crazy week we had with trying to get our application sent in and Friday we got dumped on with 10+ inches of snow. Earlier in the week, since I am a volunteer fireman, I was called to a 5 alarm fire at a farmplace. Almost all of the buildings burned down. We managed to save the house though. The rest of the week I was getting ready for finals in school and getting ready for a foosball tournament that I played in this last week. I got second place. I'd have to say that I did enjoy getting the application ready and sent out. We are looking forward to hearing back about our application.

  11. Our inquiry made it through and we recieved our application packet this last Thursday. We are now working on getting our application ready to send in. Hopefully we can get everything in order and get the application sent in later this week or early next week so we can hopeully get into the orientation in a few months.

  12. I have a quick question. My wife and I are both infertile. Now, if we were able to have children ourselves, health insurance would pay a substantial amount of pregnacy and birth costs. Since we are not able to have our own children we have to absorb all of the costs that come with adoption. We will be able to pay to adopt a child with help from family, but on the other hand I don't want them to feel like they have to help us either. So my question is....is there financial assistance out there to help with adoption costs? Has anybody ever gotten financial assistance to help with their adoption? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks again,

    Mark

  13. My wife just sent our inquiry in today. I have been reading this forum for a while now, and I think that all of you that post on here are just amazing people. I am actually kind of addicted to this forum. I have gained a lot of knowledge about Abrazo from this forum that I don't think I could have learned anywhere else.

    Thank you everbody,

    Mark
