  1. We are at the 2.5 weeks since mailing application......I jump everytime the phone rings!

My abrazo babe is almost two years old and I STILL jump everytime I get a "restricted" phone call. I got a call like that Saturday and had to smile really big when my heart skipped a beat. (This time it was someone calling me about a craigslist posting.)

Holding my breath with you Jim & Laura :)

  2. I'm so thankful that Adrian knew that someone was willing to give him a chance. May he rest in peace and his daughters know of his love for them.

I love this thought and I hope our friends see this and find comfort in this message that he knew they care.

  3. On the photos of your home I think it says it wants photos of your whole home - I sent one photo of every room and one shot of each outside angle as well. I think that is how another member of our orientation group interpreted it as well as I remember her talking about cleaning as she went.

    Good luck!

  4. Kenny I think you read that wrong. No one is saying you & Michelle view international adoption as trendy. AP's (including you and Michelle) are not who we are talking about. I'm talking about reactions I get from people who have not adopted at all and who know nothing about adoption when they hear that our kids were adopted domestically.

I think the media along with celebrity attention have fueled too many misperceptions.

  5. Interesting questions and so hard to make judgements about what should or shouldn't happen.

I can see many sides to this situation. I get what all of you are saying (why I stink at politics I agree with all sides). I think the bottom line for me is ... I LOVE that this baby is a US baby. I am so tired of how trendy international adoption has become. People ask me where I got my kids and act let down when I say here! That's wrong. I'm so happy for celebrity attention to domestic adoption for that I have no desire to pick this apart. I'm behind you Sandy!!

  6. Dyna I was thinking of Michael's parents colleen & ? (the 1? year old placed summer 2008), the twins parents (joaquin & sienna), and a few others that were all in the same orientation group live in Austin... was that 3x5? I can't remember - man how time flies!

  7. "tara&eric" are from austin and several families from the 3x5 orientation group from 2008 or 2007. search for tara&eric the forum member or go to amigos thread in the forum and find 3x5 group but i think tara is your best bet as 3x5 group i think is pretty quiet on the forum.

  8. Wahoo! We received our application in the mail today and are climbing this mountain of paperwork tonight. So excited to move on to the next step toward growing our family! :D

    very exciting!!!!!!

  9. How would a truly honest adoptive parent profile read?

One blogger gives us his/her take on how one candid couple's Dear Birthparent letter might unfold: Why We Deserve Your Baby.

    Your thoughts?

My brain is not in place tonight to debate the harsh realities and moral injustices etc etc... tonight I read this from the entire standpoint of an exhausted mom who needed a good laugh and boy did this deliver. I thought this was hilarious - totally inappropriate humor and hilarious.

name the dog and the kid the same name???? husband plays catch by himself in the back yard???????? Why is he picking the ball up himself when the dog could do that for him?

  10. "dear birthmother" is another one. i read that one in between baby 1 and baby 2 (both open adoptions) and found it to be old news at that point for me but kicked myself for not reading it 5 years prior when we started our 1st adoption journey.

  11. Ok, so it's been awhile since anyone revived this topic... but for those of you out there who ARE currently paper-pregnant, tell us what (if anything) has changed in your lives since orientation weekend, what you are doing to keep yourselves busy (and sane!) while you wait, and how someone visiting your home could tell that you're expecting?

Having had a real miracle in our life in November 2008 (and watching another miracle unfold in my life today) I love this topic and am a firm believer in two sayings. (1) Go boldy in the direction of your dreams and (2) Jump and the net will appear

    Before collin we:

    - went to birthing & newborn care class

    - went to infant cpr class

    - built the nursery, stocked the nursery with EVERYTHING needed

    - bought clothes

    - washed all the baby clothes we had purchased over 10 YEARS

    - packed the baby's suitcase for texas, zipped it up ready to go

    - bought a car seat and box to check it as luggage

    - found a cat sitter for our time in texas and gave her the key ahead of time

    - left my very stressful no time for children job

    - setup my business so that i could leave home at a moment's notice without missing a beat (laptop, aircard, fax to email account etc)

    - registered at babies r us and target

while yes baby parker is here, the legal stuff isn't done yet so we're still "expecting" - but before we matched with his mama we:

    - repacked the suitcase

    - bought a basinet since collin is still in the crib

    - bought little brother, big brother shirts

    - closed my cpa practice in anticipation of being too busy with two kids

    - etc etc

(I didn't register because with a boy I don't know what i would put on the list except diapers and formula - though I am shopping for a sling and a double stroller)

Believe friends believe and go boldy in the direction of your dreams!!!!

  12. Thanks for the information, Elizabeth!

Andrea, I will email you - Maybe we could set up a time to talk on the phone so you don't have to type everything :) Every time one of us gets on the laptop, this is what happens!

    Erin

That is hilarious!!!! Thanks for sharing. Well okay it's not all that funny because all I can think about is my time is coming all too soon!

  13. Thank you for the thoughts everyone! I have no idea where the time has gone. I just said to Bryan the other day that I hadn't been on the Abrazo forum in forever. I have been working and finishing up chemo treatments. I would come home and pretty much crash. I was going to bed (and still do) at 8:00 sometimes! I am feeling pretty good. I finished chemo treatments at the beginning of Nov. They said everything looked great. I had some options on what to do from there (chemo once a month being one of them <_< ) I chose to have a check up every 6 weeks. I couldn't even think about doing that!

    Sorry to worry you all.

    Rebecca

Still here cheering cheering cheering for you Rebecca! Sending you prayers for great things in 2010 and NO CANCER! :)
