  1. Thank you everyone for your well wishes and inspiration!! I was so excited today I read the rest of Jennifer and Doug's exciting journey. When I told my husband 4 kids he said I needed to focus on one child at a time :) I cann't help it though I am inspired and excited!! I am glad to know I am not the only one who watches the show! ;)

  2. I had such a good feeling today I had to share. I am a hopeful "againer". My son was not adopted through Abrazo but I am hoping to find my next baby with thier help! :) I have been trying to get my homestudy from my previous agency for some time now. It finally came in the mail yesturday!!! YEAH!!

Then this morning I was watching "Adoption Stories" on the Discovery channel and Abrazo was featured!! What was even better was the family was "againers" also!! It was enough to start my day off right! We are now just waiting for Abrazo to accept applications for "againers" so we can send ours in! I can not wait to start our next adoption journey! :)

  3. I have two friends here in Texas who are foster parents waiting to adopt a baby. I pray he goes to a home like thiers with a loving family who can become his forever family. I agree he is still a baby and it breaks my heart he has to spend a year waiting for a placement.

  4. Hey Cathy,

Some times parents don't understand the whole openess thing. . .

    Paula,

I'm sure this is true--especially since closed adoption was pretty much the only option in the past. My dad has admitted he thinks part of it is because he has watched too many negative stories about adoption on TV. I told his girlfriend I will share many articles and books that we read so he can see why we chose open adoption :)

I just found this thread so I am late with my comment but... I wanted to share that I have banned "Lifetime" movies on adoption from my mother's viewing. Way too many negative stories which unfortunately usually portray birthparents (usually birthmothers) in a negative light. I have to tell her it is a DRAMA not real life. She always reminds me but it is based on a true story! huh!! :) Luckily, she has no concerns about our birthparents and asks for them often! But still manages to be concerned about open adoption in general!! I guess time will keep showing her the relationship works for us!

  5. Hello everyone! After close to two years of lurking I have decided to introduce myself. My name is Andrea. We live in San Antonio. Around two years ago we began stopped infertility treatments and moved towards adoption. Abrazo was one of two agencies we were considering. We ended up going with another agency but always regretted the decision. However, it placed us in the right place at the right time because we became parents to the most wonderful little boy! :D Our son is now a year old. His placement was an open adoption which allowed me in the room when he was born. Our placement had some obstacles (parents choose to parent but a week later changed thier minds). But we now have a good relationship with the birthparents and have maintained contact. We are now hoping to begin the adoption process again next summer with Abrazo (we hope!!). We know they are not currently accepting "againers" but I am hopeful they will be next summer. If not we will just wait a little longer!

Thank you to everyone for maintaining this forum. It has been a great help to me to know others have the same views, fears and questions as I do!
