  1. Guess what?!?!? Our application and profile are done and we are mailing them tomorrow (well, FedEx-ing them since it's a national day of mourning for Ford)...either way... And our friends emailed us a copy of the letter of reference that they wrote for us and it is AMAZING! I am so lucky to have friends like them :) This has been an wonderful (but extremely busy) weekend and a fantastic beginning to 2007! We cannot believe how fast everything is moving! How exciting!!!!!!!! Best of luck in 2007 to everyone in our new Abrazo family :) Kristin

You go!!! What a way to kick off 2007.

WOW!! I am impressed. It took us, well me more than a week to get the profile done. And the application....well, that had to be do in segments as Tim was working an off shift from me.

CONGRATS on getting everything done so quickly!

  2. Thanks for the responses...I was also wondering...do we HAVE to write it or can we type our profile input? I just feel like we have so much to say and have so many pictures that we could "squeeze it all in" if it was typed. I know that it will look really formal though...AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!

    I typed ours.

I used WORD. Typed the paragraphs, cut them apart & mounted them on color paper so they stood out & went w/ each section.

    Make sense.......clear as mud right??

    :lol::D:lol:

formal...well, yeah it will look formal, but pick a font that isn't so formal...I forget which I used, stick w/ the same one all the through your profile & the same size font as well.

Just things I've learned through the years & looking at many different profiles.....I almost did these for people as a business 4 years ago....but it such a personal thing & thoughts that go into them that I just couldn't 'do' someone's profile for them....hope that it helpful :)

  3. Ok so, we got an email asking us to send our profile in ASAP. I was sorta looking forward to orientation to brainstorm on that one. I have found a little bit of info on the forum, but none that really put me at ease...any suggestions? Rich and I are going to work on it this weekend. Thanks :)

I used a 3 color theme: blue (Tim likes blue), bronze (looked good w/ the blue & pink), & pink (Shayla is such a girlie girl that it just fit her).

Stick w/ clear pictures especially one of the 2 of you on the front. I used a 5 x 7 there.

Next 3 pages where about Tim, myself & Shayla.

Then I talked about our families, house, religion.

Closed w/ a couple of pictures of Tim & I & our closing paragraph.

The very last picture was one of us 4 or so years ago (we look about the same) when we were at a New Year's Eve Party w/ streamers & a top hat on...we were laughing.

Took the profile to a copy place near us, no chain places in our neck of the woods :(, but they did the job well. Copies made were front & back.

We signed each of our 10 profiles that were sent in.

Hope that helps & how exciting!!!

Best advice just be yourselves...stick to colors that are you, don't sticker sneeze (that is cover your profile w/ a ton of stickers ) & if you have questions about the content of your letter call/fax Abrazo for advice before you print. :D

  4. Kristin & Rich,

We are brand new to this too. It'd be fun to be buddies along this process. I hope & pray for guidance through this with all the other Abrazo members too. I love that you all have a wonderful forum here.

We just sent our inquiry in a few days ago too & are on pins & needles till we get our packet in the mail. We are out of state (WI) so we have to do our home study here. Have you done that yet?

Best of luck on your journey!!

    Nichole & Joe :D

Welcome to the forum Nichole & Joe!

Be ready for a ride wether smooth or wild & twisty to the wonderful world of parenthood.

We are blessed times 2 with children through adoption. Our son's adoption was w/ the amazing folks at Abrazo.

We were out of state as well (Va). Since a whole slew of requirements have changed since of son's adoption about homestudy, etc I bet the next batch of paperwork will have that information. Or PM Elizabeth, the agency director, or call the agency after the first of the week to get specifics.

At any rate....WELCOME & can't wait to follow your journey!

Happy New Year as well :)!

  5. Thanks everyone! Our application is complete and we are FedExing it this week! I have gathered up a whole bunch of pics for our profile and our first homestudy visit is Wednesday! You forumites were SO right about how fast everything moves!!!! Thanks for all of the support! Kristin :)

A great big Texas size wahoo! The first of many steps completed on your journey towards parenthood.

    CoNgRaTs....What a great way to wrap up 2006 & start 2007!! :):D:):D

  6. While I read the article, I thought of Hayden's parents & Shayla's birthparents....

what happiness Tim & I are granted for each 'first' moment....there are also pangs of saddness for each of their birthparents & I would image for each first through out their lives there will be pangs of saddness, but the great thing about open adoption is that we can share the first w/ our children's birthparents too.

Thanks for always finding these great articles :).

  7. Congrats to the Womble family!!!

You know we can't wait to hear the story & the NAME!!

What a special Thanksgiving blessing you have & will always recall the Thanksgiving of 2006.

May the coming years be filled w/ pink bows of Texas size followed by hugs of equal portion!

Many special hugs from Virginia :D:P:) !!

  8. I think that my post topic covers everything, lol

I have been reading this forum for some time now & have decided it is time to open the door & take those first timid steps, lol.

Anyways, we live in Virginia, are in our mid 30's (yikes...did I really admit that  ?!), have endured primary IF, our 5 yr old DD came to us through the wonderful journey of adoption & I work more than part-time but not full time as a nurse, DH works as a production worker (icky swing shift). We have tossed around when to start the next adoption, who to use, do we really want another child & the answers are YES the time is NOW, we like what we've read about Abrazo & we want another child !!! :D:D

Virginia has such wacko adoption laws that it is best for us to work w/ an out-of-state agency. We learned so much during the adoption of our DD. We had a real roller coaster ride adoption, first a reclaim (different child), then DD's placement followed by being contested by the birthfather. Anyways that is a long story, and it happened in the past....we are moving forward & have FAITH that this next adoption will move smoothly & will come at the right time.

Are there any families from Virginia on this forum?

We are in the process of filling out the initial inquiry paperwork & plan to proceed from there.

    Blessings~ Amy in Va

    WOW!!

That is a wild post....as I go back to read it, I get all teary.

Tonight Shayla & Tim are playing Battlefield, such a grown up game & Hayden our 14 1/2 month old is battling a fever & continues to be a wild boy.

Anyhow, it was almost 2 years, when Tim I began our talking of a second child followed by finding Abrazo.

Now close to 1500 post later, I am still here!!

Thanks for the forum Abrazo & the opportunity to 'voice' our concerns & love.

  9. No WAY are you in Rockville! We're just down the beltway in Centreville.

I think the Abrazo note about "general" information was probably directed at us. I was just about to call and make sure they got the application -- even though I sent it Express mail and got the confirmation myself. We're just a little anxious, can't you tell!

    Just sent ya a PM.

We are in the Shenandoah Valley.

Looking forward to following another Virginia family on their journey!!

  10. What's the average age for AP's? I'm a bit surprised to see so many in the forty age group. Am I right or do the picture deceive me on the average age for everyone? Do BP have age preferences? I'm 43 so I'm nervous that I would be too old for a BP to consider.

    Cathy

    Tim & I are in our mid/ late 30's.

Remember you are only as old as you think you are,.

There are many on the forum who are in your age bracket.

We were young when our DD entered our lives, late 20's....now we are more mature, Tim a lot grayer & walked the adoption route twice successfully.

Our family is complete, door closed but not locked just in case our children's birthparents would decide to make another adoption plan & would want us to raise that child as well.

Just remember there is always birthparents looking for more experienced, more established & more secure parents to place their child with.

My 2 cents on the subject, ;).
