  1. If I remember correctly (and I defer to Suzi if she knows differently), if you/we (since we're in the same situation) haven't finalized in 2012, we could claim expenses from 2011 but not 2012. You can claim expenses from the same year if you finalize in that year, but otherwise, the expenses must be claimed from the previous year. So, when we filed in 2011, we claimed our expenses from 2010 but we couldn't claim any of the 2011 expenses until finalization (or until this year - the same for us).

I don't know if what I've typed makes sense. It's very complicated. I would love to know if we could count the expenses paid in our failed match as an attempt but whether that's possible I don't know. I think it would be difficult to do, if even possible, since you have to have a SSN or adoption ID# for a child to claim it as far as I can tell.

  2. Mari - I just wanted to say how wonderful it was to meet you and Lauranda today! Joseph really loved those lights! And he definitely warmed up to you both by the end of lunch :)
Beth, I loved the opportunity to meet you and your beautiful family in person.. Your little tyke is adorable.. He warmed up to me, just didn’t want to make it too obvious to others ;) .. but I caught him playing peek a boo several times..

How could he not warm up to you?! ;) Joseph can be very picky about adults but he really liked both you and Lauranda!

  3. Oh, Tara, I am so sorry you had to go through that and hope that you will see your daughter again. I totally agree with Jicelyn - money should not be a factor and that agency never should have said anything to you about the waiting parents situation! As others have said, I'm do glad you found an ethical agency and Nicole, Raj, and Rocco. I am lucky enough to live in the same general area and love to see Sky and this side of her family. She and our Joseph are only two days apart so they had fun together when we met up. So thankful for the openness you now have!

  4. I couldn't agree more with the recommendations posted - read and get involved in the forum (and make sure you read the topics from long ago, too - there are a lot of lessons to be learned!) and connect with others who have travelled this road and those who are travelling it with you. I am so thankful for those that went before me and were there for me/us on our journey (especially both of "my" Melissas :) ) and also those who were going through it at the same time sharing many of the same emotions. Friends of ours that started their journey at the same time as us at our first agency have become great friends and we are so glad we have each other.
