To be sung to the tune of "O, Little Town of Bethlehem":

Oh, sprawling town of El Paso, so surely thou wilt be

held fondly in the font of North Dakota memory;

The birthplace of an angel, 'twas long-awaited! He,

his birthmom and adopted folks are forever... Family.

Christmas is, of course, a season known for great miracles, and this year's holiday week is no exception. For it came to pass that, having returned from a tour of duty in a foreign land, a mother about-to-be-delivered found herself in the desert regions of Texas, without her betrothed and with no place to lay her head nor raise her child. She pondered these things in her heart, and concluded that her beloved baby boy deserved far more than she could offer him. There was no blazing star to follow, no angel choir to herald her sacrifice, no cattle lowing as a lullabye; but just like that loving mother of centuries ago, she bravely set aside her own dreams to yield to a greater plan.

Far north, like those legendary shepherds who tended their flocks in humble devotion to their daily responsibilities, one childless couple from Abrazo's Are We There Yet? orientation of 2/09, who'd waited long and patiently, were preparing to spend another Christmas season with relatives all too eager to know "when" they might become parents?

God knew the answer to the question in all their hearts, of course; it had never been any mystery to Him, confounding though it may have been to them at times. His timing was perfect, as it always is! and those well-meaning relatives now must find another place to eat Christmas dinner-- for having gotten the call to travel to a distant land, their loved ones are spending the HolyDay this year with their newborn baby boy. May Heavenly Host watch over each of them (tiny babe, new parents and firstmama, too) throughout this Yuletide season and beyond. God bless us, every one!
