This is a sad a tragic moment for so many. I hope it is reminds us all how precious those lines of communication are for every person involved in the process.

How many more are out there that have broken their commitment to first parents. Praying that God enlightens their hearts and lights a path to reconnect with first parents, prayers that first families who are missing out on their child’s life by their own choosing find peace in their hearts to journey the way back into these precious children’s lives.

I echo your prayer, Mari. Amen.

Abrazo was saddened today to learn of the untimely passing of another of our adoptive moms, whom our Memphis area folks may remember from regional reunions past.

Kay Knaff was a native New Yorker but went to Tulane for college, and married in Tennessee after earning her Master's degree from UT Memphis in 1990. She and her husband John had adopted two sons through Abrazo (in 1998 and 2001), having attended our Dooleys' Faithful Families orientation of 1997 and Twelve Couples & A Baby in 2000. They maintained loving open adoption relationships with both their sons' birthmothers, and it was their oldest son's birthmom who contacted Abrazo with the news today.

Kay was a licensed social worker, and was employed with a Methodist agency as an adoptions supervisor at the time of her death. She died of complications related to cystic fibrosis last Wednesday.

We lift John, Evan and Jake, Evan's birthmom Christina and Jake's birthmom Jennifer in our prayers as they grieve this great loss, and we thank God for the difference Kay made in their lives and in the world around her.

This is so sad. John and Kay were in our orientation group more than 12 years ago. They were againers, and (as many of you can relate) it was so encouraging to meet a couple who had been through the process before and to see their adorable son. I always enjoyed seeing Kay at our annual Memphis area picnic and definitely missed her this year. My prayers for John, the boys, and their first families as they grieve the loss of their wife, mom, and friend.

We were saddened tonight to hear from one of our birthdads from 18 years ago that his daughter's first mom, Alethea Pergament, died of pulmonary hypertension two years ago:

http://somd.com/announcements/obits/report.php?rec=4979.

Alethea was a faithful member of Abrazo's birthparent support group in 1996, until she moved back to NJ to live with her mom and go to school. She was lovely and cerebral and thoughtful... a joy to know, even amidst a time of great personal crisis.

The best of Alethea undoubtedly lives on in both Tori Jo, the daughter she placed and Brianna, the daughter she parented... Lifting them both in our thoughts and prayers as we remember Alethea this week.

So sad. Prayers for those she leaves behind.

Stork, was she ever on the forum? Her first name is unusual but sounds familiar.

Good memory, Suebee... she was, indeed:

Those who are interested in learning more of Alethea's story can find her old posts in these locations:

(Sadly, Alethea and her parents were not on speaking terms at the time of her death, so they did not learn that their daughter had passed away for many months after the funeral. Say a little prayer for Alethea's parents, Denise & Jeff, too, if you will... and for Terry & Joanne, the adoptive couple of the daughter Alethea placed here, who surely miss her also.)
