Hey Natalie. My name is Julie. I too live close to denton, and I'm sending in our inquiry tomorrow. I look forward to getting to know you better. Be careful not to do your update too soon because from what I understand, it is only good for 30 days. Just talk to the Abrazo ladies before you start the update process after you move. I'm sure they will have more info than I do. :)

LOL Okay okay I'll get together (if you twist my arm ha!) But it will have to be after March 10 when I move in and finish unpacking (so let's shoot for...ummm....September? Ha! Just kidding!!).

I don't think we will be at orientation because we are going through the "Promesa Program". Have you adopted before Julie?

No we have not adopted before. We are very excited to start the process though. We have been foster parents in the past, so we also have a homestudy done already and will just have to have an update. We will also probably be going through the promisa program because as of now, we do not have "documented infertility". We are very open to a child of any race, so it doesn't really matter to us that this program is "limited" to African American children. I just really like what I have seen about abrazo and feel pretty strongly about using them even though we aren't "diagnosed" infertile.

Okay, I am tired because the paragraph above does not make any sense to me, but hopefully it will to you, so I'm not going to try and fix it. :)

Welcome, Natalie and Julie!! :)

You both have lovely new avatar photos-- thanks for giving the Forum family a glimpse of your families!

While orientation weekend is not required of adoptive parents joining our Promesa program (solely out of concern for the added travel costs this potentially incurs for special needs families) you are more than welcome to attend, if you wish! because it really is a stellar experience that provides some needed ritual by which to become "psychologically pregnant" (to say nothing of meeting your newest BFAs--Best Friends in Adoption), drinking and eating and laughing wayyy too much, getting your spouse excited about the whole adoption thang, and even getting to take home a free purseful of tortillas or chips or margaritas-- if you're really lucky! (Inside joke, ha!)

We're shamefully proud of the phenomenal folks who make up the Forum community and tickled to pieces that you've joined them/us. Bienvenidos, y'all!!

I can't decide if we will go to orientation or not! We won't make March's (obviously) but might make May's depending on the move & work. Hey I LOVE San Antonio so any excuse to go would be good for me! Plus it is really only a 3 or 4 hour drive for us.

Oh, I hope you guys will go to Orientation. Not only is it super informative, but you will have a blast and make some life long friends.

I have thought many times..."wish I could go back!". We would love to adopt again. Maybe in a few years...we'll see!

Natalie,

I sent you a PM!! We would love to get together with ya'll. I'm sure Andrea would love to as well. I'm so happy you live in the same town as we do (even though you are moving soon).

I hadn't realized that ya'll were in Arlington until just now. We are in the area often. My husband has family outside of DFW in DeSoto and Mason has to go to the doctor at Scottish Rite now almost every two-three weeks. What a small world. I wish that Wichita falls/Burkburnett weren't so small and almost unheard of!

Wichita Falls is close to Denton right? We are moving up there next week. We should all get together when you come into town!

Hello everyone!!! My name is Melissa and my husband's name is Danny. We are from New Mexico. We have been together for 10 years now and have been married for 3 1/2 years. My husband is an elementary PE teacher and I am a business manager. We moved to NM from AZ 9 months ago to be closer to family. I was fortunate enough to keep my job and I now work from home. I go back to Phoenix for a week every 3 to 4 months.

We started trying to have a child about a year after we were married. We knew we would have to use a fertility specialist since my husband is a paraplegic. He was hit by a drunk driver when he was 19. Our first round of invitro was unsuccessful but 3 months later I got pregnant with a frozen embryo transfer. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 9 weeks. I did another frozen transter 4 months later but it didn't work. So, 8 months later I did another IVF and hyperstimulated. I ended up in the hospital for a week but fortunately, they were able to harvest 3 embryos. So, the embryos were frozen and 4 months later 2 were transferred and I got pregnant. The pregnancy seemed to be going well until I went in for my first ultrasound at 19 weeks. The baby had anencephaly, which is a neural tube defect and there is no survival rate with this defect. I was given the choice to either induce or carry on with the pregnancy and go into labor naturally. In either case, the baby would not have survived outside of the womb. So, we decided to induce and after about 40 hours of labor, I delivered a baby boy. It was really tough but fortunately, we had a lot of family support. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him.

My husband and I had considered adoption from the get go but we wanted to try to have our own biological child first. We have one embryo left but we feel that adoption is what we are meant to do. It has been a long journey and this is where it led us. My cousin has a friend that adopted through abrazo and she is the one that sent us to abrazo.org. We sent in our inquiry 2 weeks ago and are hoping to hear from them soon. I read that there is an orientation this weekend and I wish we would have sent our inquiry sooner so we could have made it. San Antonio is about 8 hours away so it's not that far.

I am so happy to be here and look forward to our journey.

Melissa

Hello Melissa,

Welcome to the forum. I am also fairly new to the forum. We sent in our inquiry last week. I read a lot on the forum before I ever posted anything. I can surely tell you this is one BIG FAMILY! It is great to talk to those who have gone somewhere down the path we all have been down "Infertility".

I also was referred by someone who has adopted thru Abrazo. They went on and on to praise this organization and the people. They were right. So welcome and I wish you lots of luck on the journey ahead of you and your husband.

Tracey
