  1. I read this interesting tidbit this morning and thought I would share: "I believe that nature, nurture, and choice are the three factors that affect who a person becomes. I believe that both the birthparents’ nature and the adoptive parents’ nurture influence who the child will become. However, it is ultimately the child’s choice what he does with this influence. He can embrace what has been given to him (whether what was given was good or bad), or he can reject it. Ultimately, he will make the choice about what kind of man he becomes." It's from the Adoptive Parenting Blog: http://adoptive-parenting.adoptionblogs.co...n-adopted-child I loved the way that the three factors mirror the adoption triad, each brings something to the child's life and together they make a whole. Best, Kay

  3. Love your picture! You guys look great.

  4. Thanks, Jen, and aloha. I changed my avatar and signature so you know it's me posting. You'll have to convince Darren to do the same.

  5. Welcome fellow Wanna Ohana-ers! Great to see you here, hope you have fun on the Forum!

  6. Yay! The heavens were smiling on you! Kay
  7. This article from the New York Times discusses some of the hard history of adoption, but it also highlights how bad times must be for birthparents to relinquish. I find the notes that mothers left with their babies so precious. I'll include the full text here, but be sure to look at the slide show accompanying the article. 11. To prevent further confusion, I changed my avatar to show both of us. Oh, and we've got a rough draft of a profile. I still have to finalize some of the text and pull a few photos from albums to scan. My background is in marketing and publications, so I'm pretty comfortable with writing and layout. But this is a horse of a different color, so I'm really looking forward to getting the Abrazochicks' feedback. Best, Kay
  12. I don't think I've ever posted my husband's name! We're Kay and Darren
  13. Very impressive use of graphics, Cathy. I'm looking forward to meeting you....on August 17th! We got our invitation packet today Yay! Kay
  14. Elizabeth, Does Abrazo usually do placement ceremonies? Other than whatever official/legal things happen at entrustment (which I actually haven't read much about on the Forum)? Some kind of ritual seems appealing to me, but I have a notion that I've read that first parents don't like them. Thanks, Kay
  15. Hi Heidi! Thanks for the warm welcome. Very glad to be here. Kay
