A year ago, I was still just learning about open adoptions. We had contacted an agency briefly a couple of years before that..I remember talking with the guy there and him telling me that there are many agencies out there that try to convince you to do an open adoption...he strongly discouraged that. I never was afraid of open adoption, but I have to say that up until about a year ago, I just didn't understand it. I don't think those on this forum necessarily demean other forms of adoption, but we just see all of the positives for everyone involved in an open adoption. After learning about Abrazo and learning more about open adoption, we talked with adopted adults that we knew whose adoptions were closed. They all had good things to say about us pursuing an open adoption. Not all, but many adopted adults do wonder and desire to know more...we couldn't think of anything better than to give our child more people in her life to love her.

Hi Franky! Welcome to the Forum! I am very sorry for your loss. That must have been very difficult for everyone. I am glad your co-workers encouraged you to check out Abrazo. It was exactly a year ago that I started reading the forum and we began filling out paperwork. We attended orientation in September and in March our sweet little girl was born. Elaine, We've heard those comments too. Very, very, very annoying!!! I know the people who have said it to us mean well, but these comments so grate on my nerves! Fortunately, usually when I say that we are the lucky ones, they seem to get it. I look at Avery EVERY day and think how blessed we are and how very, very lucky we are to have HER in our lives!

Personally I know that the only way we got to where we are was with God leading us all the way. In 2001 when we had a miscarriage at 12 weeks after 4 years of trying to conceive, I did not have a clue what God wanted for us. That was a rough time, and only through Him did we make it through that, but I just had no idea why, why, why we could not have children. After several more years and tests...sometimes the message seemed to be that we were not meant to be parents. Deep inside I knew that was not true though.
