  1. Mari- The pictures are just so gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
  2. Leah, it sounds like your church has a great program for adoption.. do they offer this as well for placement side? I believe they do. I know there is a organization that meets there once a month. Yes, we love the church we go to. The Adoption Ministry they offer there is incredible. They are the ones that we first reached out to when we started our adoption journey. Last night they had a social worker come and discuss with us how to share with our children that they are adopted. She gave examples of how to do it at all ages, how to handle the discussion if we are in a open adoption, how to discuss it if they were placed early on through CPS with a family, etc. It was a great discussion.
  3. I've heard great things about that course at the church we attend. I would really like to sign-up for it.
  4. Thanks for posting this link. At our adoption support group at Church we had a excellent Speaker in September who discussed this topic and we learned so much! Also, when we were looking for a pediatrician we specifically sought one out that worked with families that adopted. Not just for ensuring that they understood we would need more time during our well-baby check-ups for paperwork, etc. but for any emotional support we needed. I'm so grateful for our pediatricain as she not only adores Alexander but she always ask us how we are doing.
  5. Mandi-thanks for sharing. That was very wise advice about suggesting that the person seek counseling and prayer.
  6. Patty- Thanks! We were watching him interact with his cousins last week and Alexander just looked so happy. So it really made us start thinking if we wanted to jump in again and if we did, when?
  7. I am so sorry to read about your and Lauranda's loss. My parents lost our family dog of 18 years last year. My Parents still miss Fudge a great deal. I think he was like their child after we all left for college.
  8. This has been a topic of discussion in our home, too. If/ when we decide to start the adoption journey again we might be over 40. Yes, 40 is not old but our ages is still something that we have to factor in to our decision.
  9. Mari- Thanks for the post this morning. This is the quote that I have been reading a lot lately: "When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal." ― Napoleon Hill Leah x
  10. Thanks for your post Ellen. We appreciate you sharing your answers with us.
  11. We read the original 5 Love Language book and loved it. I did not know there were some concerning kids. I will need to check those out.
  12. Thanks! Yes, we have no desire to use our previous person Leah x
  13. I wonder how it's handled in Texas if you need a update but you do not want to use the same Social Worker that did your original home study?
  14. Good article. This is something we chat about in our adoption group at church. How to handle it, etc.
  15. Sara- So it looks like y'alls pumpkins might only be a year a part!
  16. Mari- Thanks for the wise words. Have wonderful weekend. Leah x
  17. Thanks for posting this poem. I hope your day got a little better! Leah x
  18. I love when you catch yourself in one of those 'perfect moments'. Kevin, Alexander and I were reading a book on Thursday evening and for a moment I caught myself looking around and feeling pure contentment. It was such a woderful feeling.
  19. We are meeting with the CPA this Monday. I applied for the extension last March so we only have a month left to the October 15th deadline. I went back and forth about whether to do it myself but I thought it was best to have a CPA do it that know about the adoption credit, etc. We met with someone prior and I hope that they will be able to help us with it. She gave a overview at church last year and she really knew her stuff. I think it's best to pay $350 to have it done right the 1st time. Finger's crossed the meeting is successful Monday and we are able to file!
  20. Thanks for all of the feedback. Education is key.
