  1. Congratulations tikkie parents and baby boy and blessings to his sweet first mom!!!
  2. I wish that our cat max had not gotten so sick and that we didn't have to put him to sleep (golly that was so sad) but my stress as a mom definitely went down.
  3. Congratulations!!! What a great way to start the new year.
  4. Welcome Merae! Hoping along with you for an acceptance packet in your near future.
  5. Congratulations to the newest parents and blessings to all who loves this precious baby.
  6. Hi Danette, welcome to the forum. Exciting times getting the application in, our best wishes to you in your journey. While I cannot offer information about illinois, I would suggest to take in consideration the source when talking about homestudy fees. I had someone in texas tell us our homestudy fee was too high but the homestudy fees in oregon are set by the state as $1500 - every agency charges the same exact fee amount in the whole state from what I understand. So while that might be high for other states, in oregon it's what you are going to pay. Suzi
  7. Thank heaven for little girls and especially for this one and her birthmom. Blessings to all!
  8. NSH, I'd say the forum is a great place to start. Poke around, read posts here and there, it's a great basis to get familiar with agency adoption, matching, the emotional roller coaster, etc. Make yourself at home. I can't to your specific questions. I had some strong feelings that our baby would be a boy but we did not state a gender preference and he was a boy! I felt like it was all things working out as they were supposed to. Suzi
  9. Much love coming your way Mari and prayers for your family. ... if I knew how I'd post hearts here.....
  10. Novemeber 12th... oh good date! What would you do with no orientation weekends... have new ap's trickle in as they come throughout the year?
  11. He's gay??????? Really? He was my childhood DREAM watching all those doogie howser episodes. I feel like I just learned about Santa. *deep exhale*

    INQUIRY

My abrazo babe is almost two years old and I STILL jump everytime I get a "restricted" phone call. I got a call like that Saturday and had to smile really big when my heart skipped a beat. (This time it was someone calling me about a craigslist posting.) Holding my breath with you Jim & Laura
  13. Thanks for your note Taylors! Mr parker came fast and EARLY - he was born New Years eve, we met his b-mom at orientation 12/6 in Washington state and baby was born 12/31 at 9 weeks early... a classic life comes at you fast story! He's doing great and we are very busy but very happy!

  14. I love this thought and I hope our friends see this and find comfort in this message that he knew they care.
  15. On the photos of your home I think it says it wants photos of your whole home - I sent one photo of every room and one shot of each outside angle as well. I think that is how another member of our orientation group interpreted it as well as I remember her talking about cleaning as she went. Good luck!
  16. I am so happy for you Kenny and Michelle and big sister. Congratulations!!! You are there!
  17. Beautiful poem Mari thank you for sharing that! I may have a mother's day use for that poem - you are just in time! Have a wonderful Mother's Day Mari!! You are near and dear to my heart.
  18. Kenny I think you read that wrong. No one is saying you & Michelle view international adoption as trendy. AP's (including you and Michelle) are not who we are talking about. I'm talking about reactions I get from people who have not adopted at all and who know nothing about adoption when they hear that our kids were adopted domestically. I think the media along with celebrity attention have fueled too many misperceptions.
  19. Interesting questions and so hard to make judgements about what should or shouldn't happen. I can see many sides to this situation. I get what all of you are saying (why I stink at politics I agree with all sides). I think the bottom line for me is ... I LOVE that this baby is a US baby. I am so tired of how trendy international adoption has become. People ask me where I got my kids and act let down when I say here! That's wrong. I'm so happy for celebrity attention to domestic adoption for that I have no desire to pick this apart. I'm behind you Sandy!!
  20. Elizabeth I guess I should clarify my feedback. I know that many adoptions (probably most) through abrazo finalize later than 6 months. BUT some adoptions through abrazo finalize at 6 months. My feedback is that I think it is a bigger deal to ap's to finalize at 6 months than perhaps abrazo realizes. We all try to be good and grateful aps but it is truly frustrating to wait. Was it enough to keep Ben and I away for baby #2 - NO - you guys know we had to use a local agency because Collin was so young, Ben had no time off from work and we did not have grandparent help (and God seemed to be leading us to Parker). But it was frustrating to wait. It was the ONLY negative feedback I could give you on our adoption of Collin - which is pretty dang awesome. So you asked for feedback on how you might improve - maybe to make my feedback more precise it would be: see what you can do to finalize more adoptions at 6 months.
